Park Inn by Radisson - Amsterdam Schiphol

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

I've booked this hotel for various reasons, first being close proximity to the airport, second is the free airport shuttle, and third it is one of the cheapest hotels around Schiphol. This is my experience for a short few hours stay with them.

Check In:

Given that I have arrived late at night, I was expecting a smooth check in, however there was only 1 staff working and it took her a good 10 minutes to complete the check in for the 2 guests in front of me. By the time it was my turn, another staff turn up to check me in, a little too late isn't it? Since it was very late, their restaurant has closed for the day, I was told that I could use their self service shelve to buy snacks and drinks. I did not check it out since I was very tired and just needed to get a few hours of sleep before catching my next flight.

Room:

The room I was given was huge, however what I did not realise until I walk into the bathroom was that I was given an accessible room, which means the toilet and room layout would be very different to the regular room that they have. I wasn't very pleased about it, due to the fact that when I shower, all the shower will splash throughout the toilet instead of containing within the shower area when there's a partition, and that I wasn't being advised or given the option.

The room comes with a small sofa chair, a coffee table, a work desk and the usual complimentary tea/coffee packets with a kettle. The view is to a car park and beyond is just big empty fields, I couldn't hear much of aircraft taking off or landing which is good given it is in pretty close proximity to the airport.

After my shower, I got into the bed hoping for a good night sleep, however I found one big flaw, their pillows. Their damn pillows are literally made for babies, it is ridiculously small, I have never seen a pillow this small in my life. I have no idea why they have such small pillows, even the pillows on a budget hotel is so much better. I was exhausted so I went to sleep with what I have, and wake up after 6 hours to get ready to go to the airport.

Free Airport Shuttle:

The shuttle bus is actually run by a company that has partnered up with several hotels, so they will drive on a route that stops on various hotels within their list. You won't be getting any personal service or help getting up/down the bus, so be prepared to do some heavy lifting and also good luck trying to squeeze your luggage in the rack if you are boarding towards the end. The bus stop along the street, not the entrance of the hotel, given this hotel in particular is in an uphill area, about 200m away, it would not be ideal for someone who has difficulty in carrying their luggage or walking up a slope.

Conclusion:

It is probably fine for a one night stay, but if I am passing through regularly, or for a longer stay, I would most definitely not choose to stay in this hotel again. The staff although friendly, takes too long to process the check in, the pillow is a big no no from me, and from what I can remember, the shower water pressure wasn't that good either. A big disappointment of a 4 star hotel.
