Dunedin is located on the lower East Coast of the South Island. This town is well known for its university, most famous for its Dentistry degree. While you may not think there's anything more to this little university town, I'll be showcasing some of the tourist attractions I have visited myself during my 2 days here.

STEEPEST STREET
Dunedin is home to the steepest street in the world. Known as Baldwin Street, you can climb up to the top to enjoy a bird's eye view of the street in front of you. While this may be a tourist hot spot, this is also a residential area, so you will encounter vehicles and residents coming and going.

CASTLE
Larnach Castle is one of the rare 1800s castles remaining, this castle has been turned into a tourist attraction to fund the continuous renovation to restore it to its formal glory. You can stay in the hotel next to the castle, enjoy an English meal in the old dining room, or explore the dozens of rooms located within this castle. Fancy a view? It's not a castle without a rooftop where you can get a 360 degrees view of the property. The gardens within the property ground are unique and stunning, you can enjoy the chill sunny weather finding some unique scriptures.

LOOKOUT
If you want to have a good lookout towards Dunedin, I do recommend Signal Hill Lookout. You will be able to see the entire Dunedin city and towards the East Coast.

MUSEUM
The Otago Museum is a great way to spend an hour or 2 indoor exploring some of NZ's history and wildlife species. There are several other museum of which you can also explore within Dunedin, however they were closed during my visit due to the holidays.
ECOSANCTUARY
The Orokonui Ecosanctuary is a protected piece of land to preserve the endangered wildlife from other species. You can join several tracks ranging from 1 hour to several hours. While I did not enter, I was told by the staff you can find many varieties of plants and birds within. You can also join the 2 different tours available.
PENGUIN
If you are interested in penguins or albatross, you can take an hour drive to the East coast where the Royal Albatross Centre is located. You can visit either or both the albatross and the penguins. Since the penguins return right at dawn, you will have to brace the cold and follow the penguins back into their nest. I elected to not go as I was the main driver for most of the trip and I wanted to have a relaxing and an early night.
